I found a 79 460 in a truck with an automatic tranny. I want to rebuild it to replace the 460 in my 86 truck with a 4spd. Both should be externally ballance. Can I just replace the flexplate on the 79 with a externally ballanced flywheel and new piolet bearing? I want to have the sepperate engine ready to go so there is as little as possible down time for my truck.
What would I have to do if I got a internally balanced auto engine to make it ready to go into my 86 truck with 4spd?
Chuck
If the engine has a counterweight behind the balancer like your 86 engine just put your flywheel on and go.
For an internal balance you will need to find a 360-390 flywheel.
That's what I was hoping!! I'll try and find another flywheel like mine. If I'm going to have to bore nad go .30 over, I'll want to have it rebalanced. It'll need a piolet bearing also won't it?
Will the 390 flywheel take an 11" clutch?
I'm hoping to get the 79 for 200.00, and he has a 77 that's running for 200.00 also. Know anyone that needs one?
