The other day I ran my rear tank bone dry and today I filled it up again and when I switch to it, fuel does not get to my engine. I can sit there and crank the engine over and over but no go. Is it possible that the lines from the rear tank need to be primed or is there something else I could be overlooking. I am not very familiar with fuel systems and am not too sure about the layout of the system (1990 F-150/302) Is there a fuel pump for each tank, or something else in the system that could fail? Any suggections would be appreciated.
more than likely it the tank switch located on your frame just under your driver door behide your fuel pump its where your tank switch goes to chould also be electrical check both.I ave same problem 1989 F 150 302 Larate XLT
Follow up to my original post. When I go to start my truck on the front tank I hear a humming noise for about 3 seconds (fuel pump?) However when on the rear tank there is no humming noise. I never paid attention if the noise occured with either tank before this problem happened. Thank Again
yes that would be your fuel pump check to see if you have a truck with one pump and a selector box on your frame or 2 pumps in the tanks it sounds like your pump if you hear it on one and not the other if you have 2 pumps if not then look at you selector valve it have about 6 ports on it

Just food for thought...I have been told that you should NEVER run the tank dry if the pump is in the tank!! you could ruin the pump..
