I am thinking about a newer F250. Thinking of a 1995,96, 97 (like the body style) I like the 460 and thinking the EFI 460 will do better then my 76 that gets 6 or 7. But i'm leaning more to the Power Stroke. is there any pros or cons in these years, what about high mileage. Also trans. its easier to find sticks then auto, is one better then the other?
You posted in a diesel forum so you're going to get a biases opinion, however I am sure we have all driven and possibly owned a gasser at some point. I owned an F-150 before my diesel and I will NEVER go back. I love my diesel. I think you'll be sorry if you go with the big block gasser if for nothing else, fuel mileage. You will get better power, longevity, MPG,.... Cerainly the gasser is cheaper from the get-go, but the fuel mileage will catch up real quick. Diesel is going to have to climb to $.75/gal more than Reg. Unleaded for me to even consider buying a gas truck.
Those years of trucks are known to have fairly weak auto-tranny's. The stock 5spd is stout, but it's top speed is just over 80mph. If you don't drive on the interstate much, then you'll be fine. Even at 75-80mph, you'll still have better mileage. You auto might be OK if the previous owner didn't tow a lot or the truck isn't souped up. There are replacement trannys and BTS in Arkansas is probably the best, but they are not cheap. Just my $.02 I hope you find something that suits you. Let us know!
