Engine part identification please...

Can someone tell me what this is please. On a 96 PS it sits on the fron upper right side of the engine and has a wheel on the serpentine belt. It looks like it might be a vacuum pump or something. It has a distinctive disc shaped light metal piece attached.

It started making noise yesterday and it appears that the bearings are worn out since the pulleywheel and shaft seem to be vibrating. Thanks for your help!

when you say "right side" i'm assuming you mean the driver side. if so, then it's a vacum pump. it's failing and will have to be replaced. you can get it aftermarket (cheaper). 100.00 at oriely and you will have swap the pulley over to the new pump. you will need a puller/installer for that job. some parts houses will loan you one.

Thanks Fedextech! Not sure what that vacuum pump does exactly but I think it finally bit the dust. Now the truck idles ok but shakes and shivers and has almost no pull when I give it the gas. I sure hopw that's what the problem is. Feels like I'm running on about 2 cylinders. I'm dropping it off tonight. Thanks again for the id!
