would intalling 19lb injectors without a P&P do me any good on my '95 4.9L? it has stock internals, custom air intake and exhaust, but thats it. I was looking at getting a new cam put in, but i was told that on the 4.9L that a new cam without a P&P wouldn't do me much good and i cant spend that kind of money right now. but what about these 19lb injectors and 3.55 gears? thanks for any insight.
19# injectors won't do jack diddly more than likely till you add quite a few hp. Also if you switch to 19# injectors it will cause your gas mileage to go down because, computer is set for the pulse length of your 14#'ers therefore you will be getting more gas which usually means running rich too .
If i were you i'd go with a cam that won't require any more upgrades to make it work with your stock computer settings as your next upgrade. Optikal illushion is using the 1 i will probably use it's a crane power max truck cam 260/272 grind. It should probably be a good choice for a nice mildly built 300-6. I think the cam will help you a decent bit at least probably more than your exhaust and c.a. intake are together. You must have heard that a cam wouldn't help much from someone who used the wrong 1 . I would consult a major cam manufacturer tell them your engine, tire size ,tranny ,rear gears and what you plan on building the engine too power wise give them as much info. as you can. They know much more than i will ever know about cams im sure.
As for rear gears what gears are you using now with what tire size and tranny? That will help most of us to tell you if they will benefit you much.
i just heard that installing a cam without a P&P wouldn't do much for me, but i'm wrong thats awesome, because i can afford installing a new cam. as for the gears question i believe i have 3.08 gears (axle code 18 in the door jam i was told was 3.08) and i am running 31x10.5x15 bfgoodrich all-terrains and i have the 5-speed mazda tranny
Are you gonna buy the gears new, or just pickup a junkyard rear end or what? If i were you and had the mazda 5 spd tranny i'd get 3.73s unless you have a deal on 3.50s or such but, 3.50s are a better highway gear than 3.73s although .23 won't make a huge difference just a little more pull off the line, good for city driving. Then again im not very familiar with the rpms you'd be running other than ford trannys last gear is 1 to 1 i beleive so, i could figure it out but, im pretty lazy hehe . G/l with your truck and make sure you consult a cam company it is very important to know what cam to pick or else you could end up worse than you started. Also make sure you know where you want the end results of the engine and tell the cam company what you plan on doing in the future. Ex. if your building a 500 hp car with a stock cam you won't be very happy (if 500 hp with a stock cam is possible that is). If you plan on a future p&p and 302 throttle body with 19# injectors like me tell him that . Anyways g/l and repost once you get it in and tell me how you like it .
