can anyone help with a vibration problem. it only happens between 50-55, has the feel and sound of a front wheel bearing but isn't. I tried blocking rear axle and running truck up to speed, vibration was still there, still could not pinpoint. it appears to be from rear of transfercase back. truck is a 99 250 extcab 4x4, 6.8l a/t.
Have you checked and/or rotated the tires to see if there was a difference?
How long have you owned the truck? Has it been lifted? If so the carrier bearing may need shimming to correct the angle of the driveline. Also the ujoints can go bad and you can't tell by just looking at them.
I've had this truck about 4 months, the vibration started shortly after.the only lift is a leveling kit, I'm not sure about the angle, it apears to be a lot less then my older trucks. after posting the question I removed rear half of drive shaft and ran in 4 wheel, ran very smooth. greased spline and end caps of u joints., reinstalled, still there. looks like thier might have been a second wieght on the driveshaft right beside the main one.
I just went through this drove me crazy I replaced carrier bearing and all u joints on the rear drive shaft and still I had the vibration Then I had it ballanced by a local drive shaft service center and all the vibration is gone I would suggest this take out the rear drive shaft put the truck in four wheel drive and drive it and see if you have a vibration if not ballance the drive shaft also my service center said he's been doing a lot of fords because the weights have been falling off good luck
