Okay, there is a pipe coming off the bottom of my carburator and going into my exaust manifold. Is this pipe needed or if it is, do they sell them for replacement? I am needing a new one. If it is not needed then I am going to can this part. If anyone knows about this pipe let me know.
That pipe coming from the exhaust manifold is a recirculation tube. It sends some of the exhaust gases to the EGR valve to be reburned, an attempt to make these engines meet emissions. You don't need it! I had one on my 84 for a while but I later removed it because it kept coming loose and causing annoying exhaust leaks. I went to Menards and bought a black pipe plug and plugged the hole in the exhaust manifold. I couldn't get the tube loose on the intake side, so I cut the pipe off, pinched it, and welded it shut. Shortly after this the exhaust manifold cracked (again) then I went to EFI manifolds and eliminated the EGR block also.
My original '78 F100 Custom with the 300ci (and a 4spd OD trans) not only has the EGR setup (3/4" tubing hooked up to the carb spacer with the EGR block), but also has two smaller diameter tubes (about 1/4" dia) coming off the exhaust manifold that are connected to the carburetor. These two small metal tubes are actually connected to short rubber tubing sections that are the ones actually connected to the carb. Looks kind of redundant to me given the actual EGR provisions. I'l see if I can post a picture later.
