Cold idle problem
I have a '93F-150 5.0 4x4 5spd that has a problem with the cold idle. When I first start it up when cold it idles fast for a few seconds and then idles down to about 800 rpm. My old Ranger held a fast idle for a couple of minutes before idling down when cold. It seems that the 5.0 should be at fast idle longer than it does for warm up. Ambient temperature makes no difference.

Well , that sounds about normal for your engine . Your Ranger Engine & the F150 engine are totally different & wont behave the same . If you havent done so in the last yr or so it wouldnt hurt to clean the throttle plates & Idle speed control .

Cold idle problem
Sorry for my ignorance, but I just got the F-150 and have not had anything to do with the v-8 fuel injection on these engines , 4banger FI yes, but not the big boys. Is the idle control on the side or the bottom of the throttle body? I do not have a manual on these engines and perhaps I should get one. Any recomendations? I live in a mountainous ( read:snowy) area and my truck is getting 18 to 19mpg with the hubs locked in and I figure that is pretty good as my Ranger 4x4 only got 23mpg and in winter it got much worse. I am running 31/10.50s with a 355 gears and due to the twisty hilly slippery road conditions I cannot get it up to speed where fuel milage would be sure to improve, ie:2400rpm.
