lift blocks

IM restoring my 1978 pickup and i wondered if it was ok to make yoru own lift blocks for the body. I was thinking of making them out of a 1 inch plastic sheet. I was going to stack three of them on top of each other to make it 3 inches. Should i make my own or buy them.

stacking ANYTHING on a 4x4 is a BAD idea, if you must put a body lift on it get the proper kit to do it.......if i may ask, why are you doing a body lift anyways?? there is alot more to it than just lifting the body, you'll have steering issues, and radiator/fan issues, these are a couple problems you will have to correct....in most cases a small suspension lift is much easier and safer than a body lift........thats just my 3 cents.........

You may also need a longer fuel filler hose and then you will have gaps where the bumpers meet the body if you go the body lift. My next project will be a 4" suspension lift. Just my thoughts. If you go with a body lift you should just buy the kit. I think they are under 100.00

First off once a body lift is installed, it's not more dangerous than being on the cab mounts, but some of what the guys are saying is true. Buy a kit, they're cheap, come with steering extension, and you can buy a shifter extension. There are still other issues to deal with.. you will have to trim the radiator shroud. I've heard of no other issues with a 2" lift kit. If you go with the three inch lift well your main wire harness might be too short, your gas filler tube might need extension... I'm sure there will be other issues.

I personally went with 2 inch body kit, 2 inch suspension, and 4 inch taller tires, the results were less head scratching and 6 beautiful inches of lift.
