Ok, my power steering has been acting up lately...it seems to be leaking somewhere and i can't really find where...Does anyone know any common places where it could be leaking from...it leaks out within a few days, then i fill it again
It can oly leak from 3 places. It's either the seal on the bottom of the steering gear. one of the hoses or the pump itself. Just look and see where it's all oily. If need be degrease the whole area and then check again.
Welp, i went to the auto place and told the guy that my power steering fluid is leaking and it is dripping right beneath the pitman arm area and the guy said that it must be the seal...he also said that everytime he's replaced a seal, it has gone bad down the line so he said that i should have a new steering box put in...said that thats the only way he's ever been able to solve the problem...Said that it'd cost $290 for the part and about $350 total with labor included...said that it would only take around 1 1/2 hours to do...does this sound right? Just wanna make sure its accurate
Napa charged me $190 for the gearbox. I think it took me about 2 hours to do it, but it's a messy, greasy, job. And that sucker's heavy, too.
Also, some places won't warranty anything unless you have the whole thing done. If it were me, I'd go ahead and get the pump, hoses and gearbox done. Then you don't have to worry about it.
