I just got a 95 f-150. It's a 2wd and I plan on making it 4wd by the time winter hits here in MI. (dont have much time )
Anyways, I know these came with TTB, so Im assuming TTB would be an easier, bolt up swap, but ideally, Id like to put a straight axle in. Will a d44 out of an older truck bolt in as easily as a TTB will? Can I just bolt the trailing arms from the older axle to the frame where the current arms attach?
Also, I have a 5 speed behind the i-6. Which trans is this and will a np208 bolt up to it? If not, what transfer case came behind these trannys?
Another option is to use a np435, with the np208 already attached. Will that bolt up in place of the 5 speed, or will I need a diff. bellhousing?
Id rather sacrifice a little durability (dd, on road worktruck) for a bolt up application, but a little modding, or swapping of parts is no big deal either. I just dont want to frankenstein it.
I have never did the swap on the 90's F-150 but it should be the same as the 80's. If you find a doner truck it should be an seay swap with little mods. The 80-86 F-150s were. on some I has to drill a few holes but that was no problem.
the straight axle in my opinion is the better swap no alinment issues or tire eating. Should be pretty straight forward I was planning to do this swap to mine but other projects keeping this just my DD until I have the monte carlo done but, heres a link should help you out another forum but it helps. You have a M5OD tranny you will need the tailshaft housing from a 4x4 one and while your getting that I would just get the transfercase with it.
If you're going to be wheeling hard enough to worry about breaking the TTB Dana 44, you might want to think about getting a stronger tranny than the M5OD. Maybe a ZF, or possibly one of the granny low four speeds.
Hmm...
sounds like swapping in a solid axle is more than I want to tackle with this truck. Since Its going to be my DD, I cant have it down for a week or two while I cut and fab crossmembers, spring buckets, brackets, etc.
Im assuming the TTB is a direct, bolt in swap. Am I correct there? Ill need to do something about a trac bar mount on the frame, but everything else will bolt up to existing brackets, etc. right?
Ive done tons of this kind of stuff to Jeeps, but ford trucks are a new venture for me. So, dont mind the stupid questions.
