I've been having problems with the idle on my newly inherited 89 F-150 302 4x4. I was told the IAC could be the cause of the high idle speed and to remove it and clean around it. I'm not familiar with this vehicle yet and wanted to know the location of this part. Is it on the front or back of the upper plenum or possibly even somewhere else ? My parents have owned this truck since about 1992 and have had numerous problems with it so I will probably be here a lot. Its a shame really, I love Fords but this particular truck hates me. The first three times I drove it the slave cylinder, clutch position sensor, and then the voltage regulator went out. It left me stranded each time, the clutch position sensor is gone and the wires spliced in the permanently down position, that fixed one problem.
follow the 2 big hoses from the air cleaner to the throttle body, look right of the throttlebody, on the side of the throttle body. and there it is...2 10mm bolts hold it in place.
I have a 1991 f150 that had a high idle, I changed the TPS and the IAC and this cured the high idle, you will need a volt meter to adjust the TPS when installing the new one, it is located on the under side of the throttle body.
