glasspack muffler

Since I can't afford a real exhaust system and my current system is leaking badly, I was wondering about putting in a glasspack muffler and a new tailpipe. I have a 1990 F150 with a 302. How will it sound? I still have stock manifolds and y pipe and stuff.

Hi, it would sound pretty good actually, it won't be real loud if it still has the cats on it but will give it a deeper tone and will let it breath a little better too.

anyone else have any opinions? Will it have a low rumble at idle and stock car sound at high rpms or will it be muffled too much. I want it clear and relatively loud. thanks guys

I have a 1980 that has a 2.25 inch glasspack and just a elbow
afterward going out in front of the back wheel. When I had
a 302 with flat top pistons in it it was borderline too loud
but it did have that higher crackle sound I liked. Now I
have a completely stock 78 351w with the exact same system and
it is quieter. It's still loud but more of a lower tone. I
asked some motorheads in my neighborhood and they said a higher
compression motor would be louder. You are just going to have
to try it and see what you get. Every combination is different.

I had a dual exhuast with 2,25" pipe without a muffler installed with hanger's for $150. That's darn cheap, and is louder than a muffler. You might consider that.

The 302 sound's darn good stock and the convertor provides enough back pressure. Just a thought...

I have a glasspack on my truck ( single, not duals)...I don't think you will get the sound you're after..a little deeper tone, but not enuf to write home about.
