Unhappy Electric Fuel Pump

Hi, I put a electric fuel pump on my F350. Just a cheap one from NAPA
25GPH at 7psi. It seems that when it revs above 1000RPM it the engine tends to miss a little and and when it does a very small quick puff of white smoke comes from the exhaust. Is this a problem with the pump its brand new, or could it be something else like air in the line or a fuel filter?
Thanks, Jeremy

Disconnect the line at the input to the filter. Attach a hose to catch fuel. Run pump. Do the same after filter. Check flow. Disconnect the return line and monitor flow when running..

that flow spec sounds pretty low for the needs of a diesl. I went on Ebay and bought a reman Holley for probably about the price you spent on that pump, but the Holley puts out 97 gph, and my truck loves it. Sometimes it's just better to go after the quality, even though it may cost more. There are other options sometimes too.

I've seen guys run some pretty cheap pumps on these things with no troubles, but I guess the only way to check would be to try a different one. How'd it run before?

Before with the mechanical one it was slow to start because it took more than normal cranking to get started, but other than that it ran smooth. Now it starts quick but when i give it gas it has a small miss to it i'm going to put on a new fuel filter today to see if that helps any if not then maybe i'll try a bigger pump.
Thanks, Jeremy

how about the return line from the filter to the front injector, is it still hooked up? If it is, plug it off and leave it unhooked, it causes drainback and hard starting sometimes, and it will act as if it doesn't have fuel at first, because it doesn't. I encountered that a while back, and once I plugged off that line from the fiter mount to the injector, the problem went away. A good tip courtesy of other friends here on FTE.

I fixed the problem with the engine missing at a higher RPM, turned out to be the fuel filter needed changed. That cheepy fuel pump worked out good after all. Now a new problem that bypass line is still hooked up, now its starting problem, but i'm not having any problems when the engine is dead cold. when I start it up at first is will sit and run all day and i can shut it off and start it right back up, but when it runs and i let it sit still warm for 20 to 30 min I cannot get it to restart. Sits all night-starts. Sits for 20min-no start. Sits for 5to10min- starts. Will Start With A rag soaked in WD40 at any time, warm or cold.

Has anyone had this problem? If so please help.
Thanks, Jeremy

jboard if it starts cold ok but will not start when hot that is a sign of the IP worn out. The test is to put a glass of cool water on the rear area of the IP when it does not start. If it starts after application of the water she is worn out. Warning this is usually a one time test, as the cooling causes the parts to cool/tightenup sufficiently to improve the pressurizing of the fluid to the injectors basically allowing a start.

Ok I understand that but why will it start just 10 minutes after i shut it off but not 30 mins i would think that the longer it sits the cooler it gets, it should start easier after 30 min then 10 min. It just doesn't make any sense.
Would turning up the IP make it start with this problem or do i need a new IP.
Thanks, Jeremy
