Today I drove the veh. and I'm not sure if the sound I hear is front or back. I think I'm feeling vibrations from the back to front.
I had the fluid levils checked and both were ok, with the exception of the back had a "MILKY" coloration (as you described)... the guy told me he didn't change fluids. I looked to see if I could do the job while it was on the rack and I couldn't even find the drain plug!
So...I guess I'll take her to a mechanic and pay out through the nose. If its not to much to ask, what fluids do I use and how much do I buy?
Thank-you Monsta for your quick response to my delima.
How much fluid does the back end require, and should I add any anti-slip additive?
It depends on if you have a 9.75 or 8.8. My front 8.8 took less than a quart of oil. I haven't done my rear 9.75, but I don't think it takes too much more. Front and rear diff's use different weight oils too. Use the additive if you have a limited slip rear.
Well Buzzard, the rear used 3.2qts...this put it at finger depth. Advance Auto told me two would fill it to the right level. Musta been thinking about the "Ranger" back end huh?
This is drained completely with the diff. plate removed and allowed 30min to drip dry.
The plate has 12 holes, had to take back the 10 hole gasket and ended up using gasket sealer compound for my gasket.
Did it solve the problem changing the fluid? It seems to be a lot better, I have only drove around 7mi. I did notice a difference though. Thx.
Yep, just looked at my manual. It says 2.6 liters (5.5 pints). It also says the front is just under two quarts. It's been a while since I changed my front and I remember having a partially full quart bottle left over, so I guess I don't remember chucking the empty first quart bottle.....dang this old age.
Yea, you would think a drain plug would have been nice to have had...sometimes "Fords" logic does not include "making it better for the customer!"
While the plate was off I did notice the LS drive. But I couldn't find a VENT tube or cap or anything that resembled one! But I know I'm getting water in from someplace.
I don't go off road as I have a show Expedition so the only water exposed is "rain" or washing.
I have had three people to look for this dang vent, we all need glasses I suppose.
Thanks to all for the help...good folks here!

Frustrating that there is no drain bolt, huh? Ya gotta pull the rear cover off to drain the fluid.
Since the cover was off, did you notice if you have a LS unit or not?
You also need to figure out how the fluid was contaminanted. Check the vent hose for cracks.
Did you recently go through a puddle/area of water large enough to submerge the rear axle?
