If you go back and read the many previous posts on this site...I'd say the majority of them are prone to failure or at least shifting problems. Do all your tranny oil/filter changes and keep your fingers crossed
I have an E4od 92 F150 XLT. I bought it in Jan 98. Drove it about 2000 miles and the transmission stared slipping. The previous owner a 65 year old woman that had passed away had the transmission fluid changed in 97. The truck had been pampered even with seat covers, dash pad etc & had 83000 miles but no aftermarket transmission cooler which I installed after noticeing the slipping. Latter that year the engine started stalling when I backed it up every now an than. Never had any shifting problems when in drive like some people do.I have rebuilt engines and swapped transmissions but these new automatics take someone with experience on rebuilding the E4OD, right tools and new upgraded components. So in spring of 2000 I took it into AAMCO with 87000 miles. The internal rubber seals, components were brittle cracked etc and looseing their abilty to do their jobs. So they rebuilt the transmission from front to rear and updated it with a new sensor and other part that were prone to fail. It runs perfect now. Hope this will help.
E40d's were prone to failing behind Powerstroke's too. So evidently Ford didn't fix the problem before the 4r100.
