Question Help, Where do I unplug my EBPV???

I have a 2002 F350 and I would like to get the EBPV shut off. I have been told that I can just unplug the wires to it, but I am not sure what wires those are. Can someone help and maybe even post a picture so I don't unplug the wrong thing. Also, is it ok to just unplug the EBPV or is this something that I should reconsider?

Unplugging it will generate a trouble code. Don't remember what number. Why do you want to unplug it though?

I'm not sure about the trouble code, but the plug is under the turbo. On the front of the turbo pedistal. It has a wire clip that needs to be flipped (towards the front I think) to release the plug. it's pretty hard to see and to get to it.

Kwik, your the best. This is just what a non-mechanic needs to get the job done. Is there any problems with doing it this way? As for any codes, I think I can clear them with my SCMT.

Fixnair, I wanted to unplug it because it is annoying and it is not cold enough here for it to need to do its job. I'm sure it really annoys the campers next to me when I fire it up on a cool morning. I thought they only worked when it was like 30* or colder, but mine kicked in the other morning when it was 45*, who wants that to happen? When it gets colder again I can plug it back in.

Thanks guys.
Mine is completly disabled as far as the ECU is concerned, I have it converted into an exhaust brake with a manually operated switch on the dash and have never seen a check engine light because of it.

I have an '02 F350 PSD also. I also followed Quicks advice on locating the plug and hooking up an exhaust brake but when I disconnected my vehicle wiring from the EBPV and wired in my own remote operating system for the EBPV I got a check engine light and a trouble code. To overcome this I built an electronic device, following a scematic I got on this site, that integrated the vehicle wiring and my wiring so the computer will still operate the EBPV and I can munually close it.

I'm always amazed at the level of expertise on this site.

I completely removed mine. No EBPV and a non-EBPV turbo outlet. I did not get any codes when I disconnected the wire either.

Fixnair,
I think I want to do everything that you did. Can you share all of the information or, now that you are a "Senior User", are you above giving information to a junior poster?

Yeah, that must be on the newer ones. I don't ever get a light.

QFD, I'd be glad to help you with this project. I got lots of help from kwik-kordead and others. Thats the great thing about this forum. I can't believe the level of expertise available here. I do not have the ability to post pictures here so if you don't mind we can communicate via E-Mail.

I bought two diodes, a resistor and an LED from Radio Shack and a push pull, two speed axle switch that I attached to my 6sp. stick. I ran power from my fuse panel to the push pull and from there to the electronic device which I mounted under the hood at the connector for the EGBV. I also ran from the PP to the LED I mounted in the dashboard above the speedo so it lites up whenever the EGBV is closed by the PP switch. The computer will still operate the EGBV whenever it needs to.

Some people don't use an auxilliary switch and choose to operate the EGBV by the brake lite switch. Whenever they step onthe brake the EGBV closes. I like switching it on & off myself, its cool. If you have an automatic you must also run power from the PP switch to the Torque converter so it will lock up and transfer the retard from the engine to the wheels.

The device works well although not as much a retard as you get from a Jake. I travel the grapevine here in central Cal. weekly and I now go down the 7% grade in 5th W/O brakes whereas I used to have to ride the brakes. It is like dropping down about half a gear.

Can you disconect the EGBV valve on the obs trucks like this. I would like to disconect it on my 96 F-350 and make it a brake also. Is it different on my truck or is it the same?
