any ideas on getting better milage short of parking it,i put a k&n intake setup on it and no change,i just put a throttle body spacer on it but i dont think its gonna help, its a 2001 f150 supercrew with a 5.4 and i get 14 no matter which way i drive it and pulling a 5x9 trailer it dropped to 10
This is a big heavy truck with a big engine. I get around 14-15 mpg with about 75% city/25% hiway. I have an airraid intake, TBS, and borla muffler. I will get on the gas from time to time, so that doesn't help. Just keep up with the maintenance and take it easy with the lead foot.
I get 12-15 w/50-50 highway / city driving but I've also got a lead foot. I've also got pretty close to the same set up as "triton_2002". I have gotten as much as 18-19 all highway trips though.
keep it in overdrive and just for driving tips, when you have to slow to a stop, or turn.
or just going down hill....put it in neutral let it coast, most don't think it makes a difference but if your persistent and do it whenever possible, your mileage will go up very noticeably, remember what your foot does "GIVE IT GAS" so keep it out of it, and keep your gas in the tank.
I just drove from N.S. to Edmonton with my s/crew 5.4 4x4.The average price of gas was 89 cents/Ltr.It cost me $650.00 in total and i had my foot in it pretty much the whole way.Worth every penny!(except for that speeding ticket in Ontario)
I have a 97 w/4.6. City 17 hwy 22 with the a/c on. I got the advantage program from SCT. The fuel ratio was at 13.3 and WOT was at 11.2 with timing at 23. This software package enable me to have full control of the ECM. Now the timing is at 32 and at cruise a/f of 15.3 WOT at 12.3. The truck tows with no problem of pinging. City driving the engine gets the best gas mileage keeping the rpms 2,000 or below. easy starts and coasting when anticipating a stop. Everything else on the truck is stock. Low fuel light use to come on at 363 miles now at 420. With the prices of gas increasing this software will pay for itself with in 2yrs. The cost is around $800. Worth every dollar!
I have a 2003 Supercrew. 5.4 Liter 3.73 gears. 17k miles. Flowmaster single in, dual out, exhaust system. Stock Goodyear tires still. Around town, which means 40mph tops in my town, we get about 13mpg. On the highway, which means 70-75 mph, we get about 16.5. Haven't hit 17mpg yet, but I've only owned it for two months.
So if you're getting 14, I'm not sure if there's a whole lot you can do. Maybe take it to a dealer for a reflash update. But I don't think that'll help much.
I have a 97 Lariat, 4.6 auto, short wheelbase and it gets an average of 17 to 18 combined driving. I can get 22 on the highway with the a/c on and get 15 to 16 in town.
My truck is stock also.
on a 1997 Ford F-150 XLT whindsor shortbox supercab.
23 on the highway. 18 in town
i have a superchip K&N a PCV Condensator, and running on 91 with octane booster (always do) and with a K&N fuel filter/injector (injects platinum into fuel) also i have dual exhaust from flowmaster, and hooker headers.
i do all i can to get my mileage, and i guess it worked!
