Driving Habits (rant)

Hi everyone, just needed to vent a little about the driving habits I'm sure we all endure. You know the ones that make you so mad that if someone put stick your eye you'd feel better. Here is my list of some of the worst driving habits I have encountered.

People making left hand turns from a right hand lane.
People that don't use their turn signal or wait until they're 10ft from the turn.
People that pass you on a two lane road, only "to find out" that the other lane is closed due to construction, so they barge back into the line of patiently waiting traffic.
People that take up two parking spaces leaving you parking two miles away.
People that speed up and pass you just so they can be first at the RED light.
This usually occurs within 65ft. of said light.
People that pull into the oncoming lane while making turns as if their Honda is 45 ft. long.
People who take 25 min. to parallel park their Honda or whatever compact they drive.
People who wait for a different shade of green before they proceed from a stop light.
People that don't understand how to use an acceleration ramp.
People that treat yeild signs as stop signs
People who ride their brakes the whole way through a turn so that their speed has been reduce to 25 mph even though 50mph would have been more than safe.
Tailgaters.

Well, I think that's about it for now. I'm sure I missed a group or two of idgits.

how bout the people that slam on brakes 10 ft from the turn, get it slowed down and then turn on the signal.
people that merge over without looking and put you off in a ditch trying to avoid it, and then HONKING at you like you are in the wrong.
people that try and catch the light at the last second, fail, hit the intersection in red while you are starting to pull through, and keep going.
People that run a red light, stop in the middle of the intersection, throw it in reverse, and make you wait for them to get out of the way.
People that think 15 ft is enough for them to get up to speed when pulling into traffic, people that think that they can put their car anywhere, including between 2 cars travelling at 45mph as they attempt to pull into the parking lot across the road.
and many many many more

People who while you are driving your 50,000 lb truck, pull in front of you into your lane a 100 ft from the crosswalk & then stop for the light.
(Trucker's also know how to time the lights so they DON'T/WON'T have to stop.....Most people don't.)

People who straddle lanes
People who run red lights.
People who don't know what a Stale green light is.
People who can't stop before the first crosswalk line, they plug the crosswalk so I have to walk across their hood
People who drive more than 3 blocks with their signal light on.
People who ride the brakes, keeping the brake lights on.
People who drive without a license or insurance coverage.

and the list goes on .....................................
People who seem to think THEY are the only ones on the road

77300i6, you have mentioned the most common teams of idiots. My most aggravating list is
1. People who can't figure out to nail it on a freeway on ramp, they get to the end and nearly stop. "Why do you think that pedal goes all the way to the floor?"
2. People who sit at a green light, waiting for it to get greener. "What, did it surprise you that it turned green again?"
3. On a two lane road, they take half a mile to slow down, and 30 seconds to turn left. "Is that as fast as it will corner?"
4. People who won't go to the right of a car turning left, if they aren't sure if they can make it around. "How long have you been driving that car? And you STILL don't know how wide it is?"
Of course, if you look at the product of the public school systems in this country, all these and others should be no surprise.

the entrance ramp is known as the ACCELERATION ramp, not the oh, lets turn and look the whole way down at the cars going 75-80mph, and we are going to try and merge doing 30!

camo4stealth, I agree that the product of our public school system isn't intelligent enough to pour **** out of boot with instuctions on the heel. I don't know how it is in other states, except for NV, but here in PA the only thing you need is a pulse. Then they give you your licence. When I took my test 7 years ago(I'm 24), a blind def mute could have passed that test. It is absolutely ridiculous how many terrible drivers there are. Don't get wrong, I've made mistakes and am no better than anyone else. I think there should be a mandatory 2 week DRIVING course that everone should have to take. They usually blame accidents on anything but stupidity, and when they do, they rant that we need more car management systems. Which IMHO is BS. If they would actually teach people how to drive and not let idiots have the privy to operate a motor vehicle we would all be better off.

heh heh...this is so funny it almost sounds fake. My friend's ex-girlfriend did the stop-go-stop-go-stop-go...at a blinking red light. I didn't know they made them that slow.

I had one guy in a Kia tailgating my Bronco, so I hit the brakes to back him off. His response, in-turn, was to rip around me, get in front, and proceed to do the same. I finally put both of my hands in the air, smiled, and screamed....do it again. We got REAL close, and I never saw him again.

People in crowded parking lots that drive up and down the lanes at 4 mph looking for the closest parking spot and holding up everybody else.
Rat cars too close behind me--back of truck is 5 feet high and I can't see them. I guess the closer they get to the bumper the quicker they will get to their destination.

on the 2 lane roads we have here, i hate when they race past you, and you are already going over the speed limit by 5 miles or so, and than slam the brakes to turn 3 streets ahead.

ahh yes, but what if you are perpetually passing? For instance, I usually stay in the left hand lane, because I'll do 75+ mph most of the way on most 4 lane highways, so I'm blowing by people anyway.

the thing I HATE is tailgating. Now that I'm driving the Ford and don't care if I get rearended, I'm starting to have some fun. Someone gets 2 feet from my back bumper, I slam on the brakes. hehehehe...haven't had any hits yet, but I'm just waiting.

what about the drivers that dont know what a yield sign means.
i have this happen twice where two cars try to merge where there is not enough room for even one car to merge, resulting in a full rear end lock up (bed had 300lbs of sand in it).
ive had one guy not see my truck and merge into my lane w/o blinker 1ft in front of me, i need to get some air horns , or a bigger truck, how about a 2.5 ton(deuce and a half).
ive also seen an audi cut across two lanes w/o blinker or pausing between lanes right infront of a tacoma(no crash but close enough).

I agree with some of those. But since Defensive Driving is key to safe driving I'll take issue with a couple of them, mainly just to play devil's advocate.

Green Lights...I've told my wife, and anyone that will listen, that once it turns green it means proceed if it's safe. That means take a second (not all day mind you, but an extra second or two) to scan the entire intersection to make sure some fool isn't running a red. Only a fool blindly enters the intersection on autopilot, green does not mean "It's safe".

Yeild Signs...stopping isn't always necessary, but again, like the green light, it's time to make sure it's safe first.

Taking Turns slowly...again, better safe than sorry.

I hate to sound like a goodie-goodie, but aggressive driving is a real problem. And speed, and ego, and impatience makes for some deadly situations. Driver's that have a "get out of my damn way, you're going too damn slow" attitude are a menace to society. I'll be the first to admit, I'm always in this battle with myself. I just remind myself that it could be my grandma driving that car, and I always cut grandma some slack.
