i have a 77F250HiBoy and a 79F250 with the same problem at both headliners... sunk in the middle; pop it up for a minit and it pops back down. i have seen velcro (a meager attempt) to solve the problem but not really a solution. i hate to 'screw it up' to get it to stay up, but i am hoping someone has found a fix for the problem. anyone got a fix to share??
the headliner is screwed up across the center roof support, the screws probably pulled through
I pulled mine down and stripped it to the cardboard, and covered it with thin auto carpet, with 3M spray on glue, it has been there for 15 years, when you pull it down you will see where the screws go into the center of the roof. maybe you can glue a fender washer to the carboard (larger than the hole ) to hold it up, that is , if, you are gonna recover it, if not, put screws and a washer in it that are painted the same color as your headliner
I didn't have any screws in my from the factory. Just a square piece of velcro in the middle. I did however add a couple of screws. Use trim screws with a molded washer and make sure you don't drill through the roof on the pilot hole.
I wouldnt doubt it, "one less screw in a headliner" is like the "one less olive in the salad" for that airline that saved tens of thousands of dollars a year doing it
My '73 headliner was sagging and the screw had pulled through. So I got some thin plywood (less than 1/4") and glued it to the center of the headliner, top side, and kept it away from the edges that curve. Then I got some headliner upholstery from a auto uphostery shop ($15) and some spray glue. It looks great and doesn't sag.
