To be truthful, I've done it on my 95 PSD. I had 3 inch aluminum blocks under there for about 6000 miles. It's regarded as taboo in most circles, though.... because of the liability you take by giving the front axle the leverage to pop the blocks out going around corners. It's not the safest way to lift anything (especially the front). However, if done responsibly (don't use aluminum) and if the u-bolts are kept tight, you shouldn't have any major issues with SHORT blocks in the front. I think 3 inch is too tall but that's all I had and I don't have them anymore.
Just my 2 cents, stay away from blocks larger than 1" in the front. Find a good set of springs from fabtech, softride, pro-comp, etc... You will be much happier in the long run. Good luck!
If you want to lift the front, use the spring hangers and shackle. I have been doing the reverse shackle mod to my 95 MY since it had the shackle on the front side of the front axle.
Doing this has improved the ride a lot actually, not sure when Ford moved the shackle to the back side of the front axle on the super duties but its a lot better there.
Doing this mod, I also lifted the front 3" and then lifted the back axle 1". This has leveled my truck pretty close front to back like this. Will have PIC's in my gallery soon showing what I did to shackles and spring hangers to get this. Springs or blocks were not changed to do this, so you might look into this for your truck.
