Hey Ya'll,
I was changing the rear brake shoes on my truck today and ran into something I am seeing more and more lately. The previous owner had put both of the "Short shoes" on one side and both of the "long shoes" on the other side. I was totally amazed that the back brakes were working at all. I also replaced the rear wheel bearings and seals while I was in there, not a bad I dea since both sides of the truck had the brakes coated with grease. I just wanted to drop a note letting people who may not know that there is a primary and secondary shoe and that getting them in the right place is very important.
Brad, at least they did that right on my truck but it had a bad seal and dumped rear grease all over the shoes and they tried to give them a quickie wash (didn't work) I had to replace the shoes and the seal right after I got the truck!!! go take a look at my newest toy over on "heres my truck" finally got some pictures posted had to take them in between raindrops but I got them LOL John
Brad, Seen that over here too. We picked up a used 93' F-150 that was in good shape. We gave it a good going over before putting it in service and found the same thing when we checked out all of the brakes. I would like to know the ratio of Ford trucks that are out on the road today that have "goofed up" rear brakes. I bet there is a lot of them out there.
I bought a 66 f100 one time and was told it had new brakes, got it home pulled the drums front and back, all of the secondary shoes were on the passenger side and the primary shoes were on the drivers side. You would think whoever did the brake job would of found their mistake.
