I have a few questions about a ford I am thinking about purchasing. It is an ambulance now (Horton body). It is a 1984 Econoline XL 350 van RV cut with dual rear wheels. Any assistance is appreciated.

1. I can't find out any information on the transmission, rear end, axles, brakes, GVW, electrics, engine, where made, options, etc. I have tried Ford dealers, etc. HELP PLEASE... the only info I have is the VIN number 1FDKE30L5EHA05219 Can anyone decifer the VIN and tell me a great book for information and repair?

2. I think it has a C6 tranny, are there several versions, which do I have? Is this a good tranny? Should I upgrade components if it needs work and what items to upgrade?

3. I think it has a Dana 60 or 70 rear end. Same questions as tranny.

4. What is a good reference book(s) for repairs and upgrades.

5. Is the 460 V8 4bbl OHV a good engine? I will probably overhaul it...(64,000 miles)Any suggestions or ideas?

My main purpose is to make it a camper van of sorts with a communications platform (ham and CAP). I don't need a fast vehicle just a good bullet proof drivetrain that will cruise the highways, with dependability, I hate breakdowns.

Rick I service the countys fleet of 6 e-350ambulances. I have no trouble getting parts for them , Just rememmber they do go thru alot of hard driving and treatment.They are just a 350 chassy, everything else is a add on .Your dealer ought to be able to decode everything for you
