Fuel Sending Unit

gauge reads empty, want to know the easiest way to check the sending unit. Does it just unplug from the tank? Any other ideas what it can be, I checked the fuses. Thanks for the help

The sending unit should be attached to the in-tank fuel tank. Apparently the combo is non-serviceable, i.e. you need a new pump assembly (~200$).
It might be that your floaters have a hole and do not float anymore. Also, the connectors on the pump-unit are known to make a bad connection. You'll have to bend them a little and see if it gets better.

If your trucks non-feul injected, the unit will be through the top of the tank. Follow wires and lines up. You'll probably have to drop the tank down a ways to get at it. You probably have a bad ground wire/connection. This is a common problem with many sending units after they have some age on them. To check for a bad ground, find out which wire is the ground with a volt meter (ignition in the on position) and make sure there are no obvious breaks. If no breaks are found, bare a spot in the ground wire and ground it to the tank or frame, making sure you have a good clean spot to ground to, and have someone check to see if the gauge moves. If the gauge moves then your problem is just a bad ground.
