my 1977 f-150 has seen better days. I finally got mad enough to start doing some body work on it. I have never done any body work before, but I want to learn.
I am going to start with the hood. What grit sandpaper do you start with to strip the old paint off, or is there a better method? once I get it to metal, what is the next step? I will probably only do 1 panel a week and I don't want the finished panels to rust away waiting for the rest of the truck to get finished, what should I put on the bare metal before I get around to painting it?
I think the stickied paint thread will get me from there, but I just have to get there first.
wherever there is rust through the panels use a grinder and get all of the rust out otherwise it will jus come right back through the new paint, since u will only be doing one panel at a time i would keep the paint on wherever its good and just repair the bad spots and spray some primer over them when your done, then once u get the whole truck done you can sand it all and paint it.
