The under hood sticker says that the timing is not adjustable.
I put a light on it, loosened the distributor hold down and advanced the timing.
It had 18 degrees at idle, It is now 22 degrees at idle and runs a whole lot better.
Does anyone know what it is supposed to be and the proper way to set it.
1996 F150 351W 4x4: Base timing 10 deg before top dead center, +/- 2 deg. Your numbers seems way to high. Disconnect the spout connector before adjusting the distributer.
look near the EEC you'll see a 2 wire plug with what looks like a little gray cap, that is a jumper, remove it to set the timing. replaced it when you are done setting the timing.
