95 Ranger, 3.0L, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive. Occasionally the truck will turn over but not start. Never happens in the morning. Just during the day when I've taken a short trip and stop somewhere and the engine has warmed up. It happens more in the summer than winter. The problem will go away if the truck just sits for a while, anywhere from a few minutes to overnight. Everytime I get a mechanic to look at it, it resolves itself. Garage says there are no error codes present.
As a side note, occassionally the door ajar alarm will not turn off and the dome light says on for several hours. I unsoldered the alarm from the circuit card to resolve.
Any ideas what to check when it happens? Or for that matter a solution would be great.
On the starting, one of the frequently overlook reasons for intermittant start is the EEC and/or the fuel pump relay. They are located in the power distribution box under the hood. These are cheap. The next time you have a no start, try snapping each one with your finger. Do one at a time.
The door light/chime/etc is a common problem. The cause is a sticky/rusted switch. It's located in the latch assembly on the door. Just spray plenty of WD-40 into each latch and work it several times. All should be well. There are many threads on this issue in here.
Thanks for the reply. I can't locate the eec relay. The engine compartment fuse box has relays for the fuel pump, PCM power, Wide Open Throttle. Any idea where it is. Does it go by another name?
