Finally got around to adding a Sirius tuner to my Kenwood radio .Boy it got old always looking for a radio station driving through the states . And a pretty easy install to and a nice upgrade.
I got a Kenwood x-789 installed with the Kenwood sr-903 sirius reciever with it. I bit the bullet and paid the $499.00 for the life membership figuring that I'll have this truck for at least 5 years and the satelite reciever can be uninstalled from this truck and put into whatever I get next.
The Kenwood Head unit I got was satelite ready so I didn't have to go FM modulation and it sounds great. I don't think I've had the radio on FM since it was put in.
It's nice to have the weather channel as I'm heading towards the lake and "Hair Nation" has become a guilty pleasure turned up real loud.
On Monday I am getting a local shop to install a Sirius unit. Was going to do it myself but got a pretty good deal with the shop through the Ford dealership for reasons I do not want to drag up again. They are also dropping in four new speakers and a 4-channel amp for me. I hope this sounds good when it is all said and done.
I was hoping Sirius still had the lifetime sub. I was paying by the year on my old unit and it just expired. Like you I figure I'll have this truck for more then five years so think the lifetime is worth it.
Yes they still have the lifetime, mine has been in about a month.
I had the front speakers replaced with the Kenwood Excelon speakers and it made a huge differance in the clarity and volume. I was told to add an amp if and when I replace the rears to keep the clarity level up. Right now I'm getting great sound way past the volume that I'll ever use.
The best part about the Sirius is no %&%$@#& commercials! Thats worth the whole price right there.
amen and pass the ammuniton on no more commercils. i have had an xm roady in my truck for six months now and really love it.great sound good price, overall good deal.

I bought my daughter a new CD player and a set of four speakers for her VW Beetle for Christmas. I too used a dealer (huge corporation that sells everything from CDs to washing machines). They took over three hours to do the installation.
Unfortunately, she totalled the bug recently (no injuries), and we had everything "uninstalled" by a local body shop. They found that none of the connections made by the dealer had been soldered or had twist-on insulated connectors. The wires were merely twisted together and covered with electrical tape. Unbelievable really.
If you value your SD as much as I do mine, you might specifiy that the installers use a more safe method of connecting wires together.
I've had Sirius in my vehicles for years. In my S-10, I have had it in there for over a year and have yet to program in any FM stations. I will never go back to FM radio! Matt
I've had three new Fords since 1995.Two vans & a 03 F-250 and it was a matter of unplugging the stock radio from its wiring harness, buying a harness that fits Ford to your brand reciever & plugging it in. I've got a Kenwood reciever & added the Sirius unit behind the seat at Christmas. Except for Howard, I haven't listened to anything but satellite since. The sound quality is better than a CD. What size speakers are in the front door?

Glad no one was hurt, that is how my sister got a new '05 Honda Accord. A guy T-boned her old Altima.
Anyways, I already talked to both the floor-rep and the installer, everything is soldered with heat shrink. So they say, I should prolly get that in writting before they start so I can look and have something to go back on if I find 'cheap' connections.
PS... Jawbreaker, I can not send you an email (you have it flagged for not receiving emails). On the in-dash 6 disc changer there is an AUX port. It is NOT just plain ole RCA plugs or anything. I can not remember the exact verbage but it is a Ford BUS link type system. Everything is propritary to Ford. As of yet no one has successfully made an adaptor, that I have found. Pie is working on one but having problems and Ford will not help them git it working... i.e. no specs on the wiring breakout. For now I am having it installed via FM Modulator but the shop is preping it for when the Soundgate is available.
Got my Sirius installed today also. Did the lifetime so I don't have to fuss with monthly fees. Pic in my gallery, it is in place of the cup holder in teh dash.
I just paid for a year up front for the XM (to get locked in at the cheaper rate) and am kind of regretting it. My buddy gave me his login to listen to Sirius online (I sit behind the computer all day at work) and I have to (and hate to) admit that the programming on Sirius is alot better. So since I've already paid for the XM in my truck (on my Pioneer AVIC-N1), I might add on a Sirius unit as well. I know it sounds crazy, but you only live once! ha ha. Hmm, I think I have more space out of that 3rd brakelight. I already have the navigation and xm antenna, what's one more....
For now mine is using the modulator. ATM that is the only way to do it in my rig w/o replacing the radio, which aint gonna happen. So I am still waiting on an adaptor, then I will go hard-wired.
Same with mine and I been waiting with little patience. I may have to break down and go with the modulator. I currently have it even worse with the fm transmitter. I just didnt want to take the dash apart until I had all I needed. one time.
