I just got my 2000 Exp sport back from the dealership after having the engine taken out to do the major timing chain job. The problem I am having is with the steering. When you are at idle or moving slowly, there is a shudder when you turn the steering wheel. This didn't happen before they worked on it. Does anyone know what may be the problem? I really don't look forward to taking it back to the service dept. I am hoping somebody may point me to a simple fix. Thanks!
there may be air in the system. I read somewhere in a ford manual that you should jack both front wheels of the ground and with the engine running in park slowly turn from left to right several times do not hold at lock. This should purge the air out. if that doesn't work try doing it with a vacuume on the fill cap this should suck the air out of the system.
I'd like to know as well. I just changed my ball joints and now my steering does exactly that. I'm guessing it's the steering rack. $600-$750 repair at a shop. or $200 in parts and lot's of cussing.
You are exactly correct about the air. I purged the system like you said, and now the problem has corrected itself. The only time I feel any vibration is when I am parked on my carport that has a smooth cement floor and turn the wheel. Anywhere else it performs like it should. Thanks!!
