My Haynes manual says to backflush the heater core, I need to blow water back into the return heater hose and use the intake heater hose as a drain. That makes sense, but I am not sure which hose is which? One is labeled "uppr" and connects to the upper part of the engine and the other is "lwr" and, logically, leads below. The upper one is closest to the passenger side of the vehicle (the the left as you are looking into the engine compartment). My guess is that the "upper" one is the one I use to apply the water and the lower one is used as a drain. Can someone confirm? Thanks
Thank you for the guidance. I took a look and was unable to identify a valve. Meaning that either I don't have one or I am not sure exactly what I am looking for. Any other help would be appreciated
The lower engine hose is the one that pumps thru the system, so that would be the intake on the heater core side. If you have a gen 1 explorer (91-94), I don't believe there is a control valve. Are you having problems with the heater, and is that why you are back fluhing?
Thank you for the clarification. It's a 97 explorer. No problems with the heater core, but my Haynes manual specifies a backflush as part of the cooling system flush process, for which it is now due as a matter of routing maintenance.
Thanks for your help...any additional guidance appreciated.
