We have a 2001 Excursion with a PS. I am trying to find the valve to drain the fuel-water separator. The only thing that I can find is a yellow lever on the back of the fuel filter bowl at about 11:00. The local dealer said it should be on the frame rail under the driver side. I don't see anything there that resembles what I would expect.
Turning the valve on the back of the fuel filter bowl results in what appears to be diesel coming out of a drain tube but I don't see any evidence of water in this liquid.
Do I have the correct lever or where do I find it?
That's is the lever, and in the supplement owner's manual. However I have not tried it yet.
Did the fuel just drip cleanly down to the ground without running all over the bottom of the engine? Also I have yet to find the drain tube and afraid to get fuel all over my driveway if I open it.
The tube abruptly ends fairly high up, right over the cross-member (of course) toward the passenger side but about where the fuel bowl would be in the front-to back orientation. The first time I tried it I had not looked to see if it was straight shot down for it and placed a container underneath. When I opened it, it hit the cross-member and ran all over the place. The last time I took a 1/4" or 3/8" plastic tube and shoved it up over the end so I could cleanly drain it into a container. The couple of times I have tried it, I have not gotten obvious water. Maybe I am expecting it to be clearly water when it is not.
