How much room for perches??

Hey everyone, i got a question about the spring perches on the 85.5-91 king pin dana 60's in the ford one tons.

How much can the driver side spring perch be moved inward (if at all) before it in the pumpkin? I'm hoping its a couple inches as i could really use the extra space so the tires on my 81 (i'm doing a sas, but i wasn't able to go and get the donor truck this part week due to the tow vehicle needed all new seals put in the front hubs) will quit hitting the leafs, i would go with a different backspacing but that's money i will be spending on the motor upgrade/swap. the tires are a 16.5x16x35 bogger on 16.5x12 rims with i think 4.75" of backspacing, but it could be 5.5", i'm not entirely sure.

Ha, silly rabitt, the driver perch is cast into the pumpkin and theres really no moving it, in at least. Only downfall on the latter 60s.

I told stange that if yuou could run 44's on an 88 axle without changing perch position he shouldn't have aYN problems. I'll be curuous to see what his backspacing is.

Ha ha. Nice avatar. Is that....naw, couldn't be.
"I'm super! Thanks for asking."

Anyhoo, for the tech part of my post...........

You shouldn't have much clearance issues with the leafs. I was running 35x14.5-16.5 Turdbirds on mine for a while with a 5.25" backspace wheel. These tires were about 16 inches wide at the outer lugs and I never ran into any problems except that it took a little more than 6" of lift to keep the lugs from eating my running boards at full lock. (running boards suck and it wasn't long until they were gone)

That's one nice thing about the older frame D60's....at least you have that extra two inches on each side that the leaf springs are mounted toward the center of the axle.

With a 4.625" backspace wheel (which a lot of them are, you shouldn't have leaf spring interference issues. If you do, just don't turn as sharp. )

Yeah true (i posted last night on this after pro's but my computer screwed up). But i have (as you know ivan) at max a half turn left in the steering wheel once the lugs start rubbing, but i do have some tape marks on the steering wheel and dash to help prevent the tires from hitting but when in the pitts i',m normally not paying attention to how many times i'm turning the steering wheel.

But i should say that the truck still has the dana 44 TTB hd underneath it (i'm picking up the 88 one ton parts truck-axles tranny/t-case tomorrow), and by any chance do the ttb's (leaf sprung's anyway) trun sharper than a 60 solid axle, as this could be whats happening.

Irf all else fails i wil find a set of dually front hubs and convert it over to get the clearence that i need.

I haven't driven my 86 in a while(it's got an 88 kingpin 60 in it), but, my buddy's 88 Crew has a severely limited turning radius, without a doubt the TTB will turn sharper than a kingpin 60 will, but, I think his is even more limited than my 60, his truck came out of the factory with limited slips front and rear. The lock nuts on his steering stops are welded in place(I doubt this was doen by a PO, his truck only has 50K miles,) while mine aren't.

4" think titanium spacers? Yea right Even out of billet they would cost bank...Ti would be nuts.

I run a late model 60 and it doesn't affect my turning radius. If I turned in my stops anymore I'd have my yokes making contact...this should be the limit in any axle. Whats your rim backspacing? I run the standard 4.5 and thats with my 20" boggers and don't have problems. As far as the stops being welded, I doubt that was a factory deal, but who knows? All I can say is that mine weren't welded.

Yeah i think its because of my backspacing.

ANyway i was finally able to pick up the donor truck today (no pictures though), and found out that it has 4.10's but no ls front or rear, time to break out the welder . By any chance would the 60's be wider then the TTB's?
