finally got the bugs out of my 1 wire alt install. i had followed directions on some of these posts, but still had a battery discharge prob. After a lot of head scratching and middle of the night thinking, I found that only 1 of the wires on the 3 prong plug had to be hooked to the hot side of the solenoid to energize the fuseblock and starter solenoid, and the other 2 wire plug is not used at all. The last prob I still have is a non working ammeter, but just need to trace these wires to and from ammeter and run the charge wire from alt thru them and back to hot side of solenoid. Then I will find out what happens when you run a 100 amp alt thru an ammeter that only goes to 60. (Prob will work fine)
It will probably be ok. I doubt if you will ever have a 100amp load on the system. I usually recommend at least 10 guage wire for this circuit, but if you want higher output with lower voltage drop, I would go even bigger(8 guage or 6 guage).
It looks like the original wires to and from the ammeter are about 10 ga. I'll need to drop the ammeter and follow the wires towards the alt. But first things first, now I'm doing prep for new paint. Its always something, but thats all the fun.
