Door Ajar Switch
My dome light stays on because one of my DOOR AJAR switches is stuck or defective or loose ground etc. Does anyone know whwre the switches are located and how to get to them.......Thanks Dick
They are located inside the door on the latching mechanism. I had to take off the door trim and follow the 2 wires leading to the latch, there you will find a small ball bearing type switch that gets easily clogged up with dirt. Many have just sprayed WD-40 in the door latch from the outside and had good results. I had to manually clean the switch.
I should have asked here earlier. My old (now gone) '99 used to act up in warm weather only ... that is almost any sunny day, so I pulled the fuse to avoid killing the battery. Was annoing as heck while driving also, especially at night when the dome light would come on randomly!
Your going to like this. Yesterday at the Home Depot, when we were leaving the door ajar light on the dash stayed on along with the lights. So I got out and made sure everything was closed and it was. Get back in and the lights were still on, so we just drove home. The first thing I did was WD-40 all the latches and they still stayed on. Next step take off liftgate upper trim then notice I don't have a torx big enough to remove the handle. So I removed just the upper trim piece and closed the doors and guess what? the lights go off. Hmmm. So I install the trim piece and guess what? the lights stay on! So guess what I did, I removed the trim piece and everything is fine. By the way none of the wires were pinched or broken. Any ideas.
