Should a person get the new 3v eng. or are the 04 v10s as good and reliable? what about anyone running k/n air intakes, and or after market cat back mufflers? the s/d 05 has a better turning radius than the 04. The 05 has a different suspension than the 04 , coil springs vs leaf springs(04). What are you planning on doing with the S/D? Go to www.kbb.com and see what a 05 vs the used 04 is in price. I found getting new VS used was the same price per month because of the interest rate difference and terms. So after many years we bit the bullet and got new. It is a hard decision to do but good luck.
major differences
04 front leaf springs (4x4) , 05 front coil springs (04 and 05 2wd coils springs)
04 4 speed automatic , 05 5 speed automatic (gas engines)
04 2v gas engines. 05 3v gas engines
gas mileage is practically the same
05 has a stronger frame
05 has 17" stock standard wheels, 04 16"
05 has different grill.
05 has higher gvwr ratings
both are good trucks. I personally would order an '06 which is similar to an '05 but should have better reliabiltiy than the '05. I prefer the leaf springs over coil, but I like more HP, bigger wheels and stronger frame.
catfish05:
It all depends on your personal finances.
If you can afford the 05. GET IT.
The torqshift is so much better than the 4R100, the 3V V10 makes a fair bit more power than the 2V.
The chassis has improved in leaps and bounds. Brakes, stiffer and stronger chassis, coils on the front etc. Higher GVW's
You can expect about 10-11mpg in city, about 14mpg sitting on 70-75 on the highway. This depends on configuration of course.
