Many of you already know this but I didn't know it when looking for my truck.
I'm curious what other members think about being able to purchase a new repacement rating plate for our vehicles. The only number that has to coincide with your actual vehicle is the vin. (mif-Fifty catalog page 38) Other numbers can reflect any changes made in the vehicle.
As a side note, I had an interesting conversation with Sy (owner of mid-fifty?) yesterday. It was a real eye opener regarding the company attitude about customers.
If I didn't have one, I would be interested in getting a new one, but to get one just to document componet changes, I wouldn't be interested. I feel most folks looking at or working on the truck down the road, wouldn't trust the information anyway.

I happened to have e-mailed Mid-Fifty yesterday with a question about one of their products (speedometer) and was surprised to receive a very courteous and knowledgeable reply from a real person in the same afternoon so I'm kind of curious as to where this is going. Good or bad?
My experiences with Mid-Fiftys have been all positive. I met those folks in TN at last years show, and was impressed with the display they had. I must say that the turn around on parts is very quick, and the prices seem to be in line.
I also am interested to see what kind of eye opening went on!!??
I've had good experiences too. When I explained to her that one of the stainless rails I purchased were scratched, she told me they were meant to be painted. They ship the parts one way for 23.00, the return is 12.00 for the same ground freight (that's a 100% mark up on shipping) and then tells me that the 100 plus dollar rails I have were meant to be painted. Not a big deal but it was entertaining when she told me that she was tired of "us guys" being unreasoneable. I'm very reasoneable and explained to her that I live alone in the desert, that there weren't any other guys around!
I've spent about 500.00 there this month and was in the midst of putting togrether an interior kit for my 56 that would've been about 1200. but she was intent on wanting to win over a few parts that were shipped in error and some damaged goods...and this is the owner.
It's not a big deal...I was just surprised that they don't want to exercise the return policy without a hassle. Otherwise, all is good. They have a great selection of stuff. Obviously, I rubbed somebody the very wrong way!
That is a very interesting story. I had a similar experience, with floor pans, but was probably making an unreasonable request. The error was mine, but I was hoping they would swap the toe kick. I needed the "stock" toe kick, but ordered the "custom" toe kick (actually the only one they listed). The floor came from Direct Sheet Metal, drop shipped. I finally just called Direct Sheet Metal, and they sent out the "stock" toe kicks, no charge, nada, freebie, gratis........
It sounds like she was having a bad day, or maybe she got me on the phone before she talked to you. I must say though, I will continue to do business with them. This experience certainly has not soured me.
Constructive comment FYI: My experience with Mid50s is that, if I want to get anything in under 2-3 weeks to Virginia, I have to ship 2nd day UPS. They don't get standard ground shipments out quick enough, but do get the overnight and 2 day ones out on time.
I'm basing my comment on that, in my business, I get standard shipments from that region in half the time (4 to 7 work days). I do like the Tootsie Rolls though, and they have a decent catalogue too.
I guess I wouldn't have a problem with replacing the rating plate. After all we do replace a lot of parts with "new" ones. So what's the difference? I did a search on this yesterday and there seems to be a lot of places who will do new rating plates.
Now as to whether the rating plate should reflect changes, I think that is up to the owner. I know that my 55 won't be the same as the original paint colour, but I have no thought of changing the rating plate. Tis nice to have a reminder of what the original paint colour was.
