K&N filter install
i've been keeping track of my fuel mileage and it has been around 12.5-12.8mpg. the last tank i changed the fuel filter, changed to synthetic oil and added some diesel kleen (grey bottle) and jumped up to 14.0mpg. i was pretty happy with that. i'm hoping to get a little more with the open filter but i won't hold my breath.
one question, do i have to have a bigger exhaust to run an aftermarket chip/programmer? or can i monitor the EGT's and be alright??
thank for the info, i'm learning all the time.

You can run a low to moderate chip without upgrading the exhaust, as long as you have a pyro to monitor your EGTs. But an upgraded exhaust will make a BIG difference in how the truck performs. I ran my flip chip (stock, 50, 75, 110, with gauges of course) with the stock exhaust straight piped, it did alright. Then I put my full 4" on and I noticed a definite performance improvement, well worth the investment, and EGTs run considerably cooler.
my plan is to add the 4" exhaust in the future and that will be the end of the mods. the truck is a daily driver and needs to last for many more trouble free (hopefully) years.
thanks for the help.
