Head light switch or Alternator problem?
Hello, I have a 93 F-150, with a 302. My problem is, when ever I turn on my headlights, all my dash and cargo lights go out. Ive pulled out the head light switch to find that its heating up HOT, its burned and cracked the connector it plugs in too, so I have to scratch it up a bit before it works. I heard from a ford owner, that its the alternator going bad, cause also, when ever i go into reverse, my amp gauge goes way down. I just need some help, is it alternator, headlight switch, regulater?????????

I would definitely replace the headlight switch first if it is getting thet hot; clean the connector with electronics spray cleaner and make sure the contacts are clean. Then put a meter on alternator output or take to Advance or Autozone or whoever you have in your area and have them check alternator output. Go from there. Good luck.

as well as replacing the headlight switch I would replace the connector if it is corroded or melted at all. The last thing you want is a fire in the cab of your truck. I had that happen in an S-10 once and it was no fun.
