Electronic distributor tip

A local mech just tipped me about a possible cure for my long - ailing EFI '87 F150- I've had nightmare problems with this thing, had "mechs" look at it, changed lots, and havent cured the missing and backfiring problem... This guy told me he's cured lots of mysterious missing and rough run problems by replacing the dist module. He also told me ONE thing to look for - remove the module and carefully pry off the cover (that sez Motorcraft or other brand names) and check the condition of the clear gel inside covering the electronics - if it has bubbles and your rig is running bad, or not running at all, it's a pretty sure sign of a problem... Anyway I changed the module and it runs normal again.... At least now I know a little more about all this computerized crap, have got a few new sensors, a new PCM, and lots stronger jaw muscles! Not to mention that with my wallet so much thinner, I don't look like such a fat #####...
