Jumpy tach and missing like a pig!!

This morning I drove my truck to work and half way there she starts missing and dying, like there is no spark at all.

The tach goes from 2500 rpm down to 700 in less than a second, but the engine is still turning at 2500. Did anyone here have these same symptoms?

BTW-88 f150 302 5 speed, high miles, wires and plugs replaced recently.

I am thinking TFI module, anything else?

Randy

Also: The truck is for sale, see classifieds and search for 88 f150 4x4.

RGAZ, How is your charging system? I have seen where the batt goes low and the alt is not putting out cause a lot of problems. I have had my whole dash go crazy before. I have also seen the engine throw a nasty hissy fit when the charging system is down. I have seen this on three different trucks. Just a thought.

My truck did the same thing to me. It eventually quit and would not start again. It had no spark, so I replaced the module and the pickup in the distributor at the same time, and then it fired up and ran great again.

Charging system is fine, I had it checked a week ago.

Last night I did some poking around and when i moved the cable harness that connects to the coil, she started sputtering and died. I think i fixed it buy pulling off the connector to the coil and tightening the metal clamp so it clamps on the quick-connect tighter. It could be something else, but when I did that it ran fine.

BTW-Anyone know what the big red resistor in that harness is for? Mine was all taped up, and I retaped it.
