I've had a funny thought rattling around in my head lately to have a muffler shop bend up pipe and add a Y-adapter to each end to replace the ugly plastic air intake tubing...has anyone tried this and if so how did the throttle body and the air box like the amount of weight sitting on it? My fear is it would cause the airbox to split a little and allow dirt/dust/for me MUD to get into the air intake...any thoughts?
I could always use silicone glue for that, its air tight so thats good, and it peels right off so if I have to clean the throttle body or clean the air filter or whatever.
Kev,
I can't remember...does your truck have mass air? cuz if it does and you attach the MAF to the intake manifold with a metal pipe, be prepared to heat up the sensors.
If not, then I'd say just use some thinwall tubing to keep weight down. I personally am a bigger fan of plastics when it comes to intake tracts. The whole "colder air thing" makes me wanna keep metal as much out of the equation as possible, especially in an already hot enviroment like the engine compartment.

i dont no if this is just a wierd idea or unpratical but u can buy kits for a 95 f-150 w/302 on ebay for like 50 dollars that come with piping and they hove the mass air flow indicator back closer to your throttle boddy. leaving room to put a y pipe and put two air fliters on. i perfer the green air filters because they draw more air into ur truck. but do u think that would be a unpraticle idea?
