Hey! Today, I bought 2 new impact guns. Both Ingersoll-Rand.
IR2135ti, and IR2115ti. The 2135ti is advertised to have 1000 lb/ft of "NUT BUSTING TORQUE" and 700 lb/ft regular. I guess we'll have to see. The 2115ti is advertised with a 280 lb/ft reverse. Anyway, here's why I got them.
I've been doing a lot of clutches lately, and the flywheel bolts on Series 60 engines have to be torque-turned. Well, 50 lb/ft plus 2 flats. My old gun (CP 731) will do it, but has trouble. I used a co-workers gun yesterday to torque turn the flywheel bolts (he bought a new Mac) and figured his 1000 lb/ft, $500 gun was way too much to pay. I was impressed with the power though. I figure 1000 lb/ft is 1000 lb/ft, so I got the 2135ti.
As some of you know, my Mac AW335 3/8 impact just doesn't cut it. With an advertised 200 lb/ft, it's probably closer to 75. It won't tighten 5" exhaust clamps, much less loosen them. Even when new, I had a job to re + re an exhaust manifold on an N14. That Mac wouldn't do it. So out comes buddy's IR 2115. No problem. I just happened to get the updated 2115ti.
They're both composite body construction, with titanium guts.
I spent about $300 each. And I'll keep you guys updated on how they hold up.
Be sure to give an update. I'm trying to decide between the 2135ti and the Snap On IM6500hp right now, but it sounds like the IR is the way to go (cheaper than snappy too!)
I use the 2131 and 2112 IR guns every day, and have tried the Ti versions. I really wasn't all that impressed with the Ti for the extra money. I bought mine at Lowe's 2 years ago for $179 and $159. Money well spent. My Snap On guy recommends these over the Snappy guns.
I also recommend the slip on covers. Well worth the $6.
