Box Volume

I have all the equations to construct a box but i am wondering about the volume required for the sum.

When a sub says it requires .66 cu Ft of air space is that air space of the box without the sub installed(ie. no sub displacement)

or do you have to compensate for how much the sub will displace- if the sub displaces .1 cu Ft then should the actual empty be .76 cu Ft.

Thanx

The displacement of the sub is usually already included in the required enclosure volume, unless specified in the specs.

The box i got from my friend is made of 3/4" plywood, i am wondering if to get a lil more volume out of the box would it affect the sound quality if I were to use 1/2" plywood.

Use MDF not regular plywood. 1/2" is not a good idea, especially if its a 10" sub or bigger. The box could flex or even shatter under high SPL's. Ployfill (pillow stuffing) inside the box about 1/3 full can sometimes make a big difference.
