Gear swap

I am in the process of swapping gears in my 93 F150 2wd. My question is if there is a specific spacer that is used for the 3.73 gears or do I have to take a bunch of shims and test fit the gear until the correct tolerances are acquired?
Thanks in Advance, Jeremy

Gears should be installed by or with the help of a professional. The contact pattern of the gear is critical and install requires the use of a dial indicator for the correct lash.

I agree completely, I was just curious if there was a kit available for the 8.8 rear end gear swap from a 3.08 to 3.73. Thanks

Not all gears are created equal and with slight changes in them and bearings and carriers and housings, there is not one specific amount of shim, The removed shims from the original gear are usually a great place to start from. A master install kit is available with new bearings and a bunch of different shims.

If you bought a Ford racing gear set you should be real close with the original shims.
