OBS DP question
I've got my second dp from a reputable exhaust mfgr. and am having problems with it.I give them credit,they have tried to make it right thinking the problem was an isolated case,but I'm thinking the problem is with their jig.If I tilt it,at the turbo,so the exit end is level(dp close to up-pipe),the last elbow is out near the crossmember brace and the exit end angles in toward the center of the truck,tilt it the other way(so that it runs parallel to the frame)and it rubs the firewall.My question is,how much clearance do you have between your up-pipe and the dp?

I got about 1/4 all the way around mine. You definatly don't want it touching anything. I would worry about it touching a up-pipe. Might wear a hole and cause more problems. If it touches the firewall it'll be real noisy.

When I put my 3-4" dp in it first was touching the firewall. I was ready to send the new 4" system back thinking it was WAY too loud. But after double checking, and adjusting, it sounded great. Worse still is rubbing on the up-pipe. It might not make any noise but it'll rub a hole that will be a pain to repair.

I have found if you can place spaces in all the tight spots as you get all the system loose fitted but not tighten any of the bolts on clamps, then once all the spaces you need to stick in places to keep things off each other and then tighten all the clamps up.
This works really good for me any way. The closest place I have is a 1/2" at the clamp on the downpipe where the two pieces go together. The clamp gets kind of close to the tranny and the firewall there but no closer than a 1/2". I would not want anything rubbing, I fear that would be asking for trouble.
You can't get the space at places, push the firewall in some to allow you to move the DP that direction and get it off the up pipe and maybe it will begin to fall together better. I use a small block of wood and a piece of 1-1/2" pipe with the end mashed a little to push the firewall in. It will allow you to put a bind on things and then roll it back and forth in the area as you pull against it. Use the block of wood up in the area of the mashed end on the motor or whatever you pry off from. It really looks smooth when your done like this and not like you did the BFH treatment LOL...

Anyone in my passenger seat can feel mine rubbing on the firewall, in the floor. we bent the lil seam but it still rubs. I figured everthing is metal, it only get up to 850* there, all should be good.
