Saying good-bye to a 14 year friend...
I sold my 1984 F-150 yesterday. 300 six, top shifter overdrive, basic no-frills truck. I put over 100,000 miles on that engine after I rebuilt it. Drove it on several extended trips, and never had an ounce of trouble out of it. I really enjoyed this truck. In the last few months, I had replaced all of the shocks, and 2 tires. I was intending to keep this truck forever, but my new (to me) 1983 F-150 came to me in 9/04. I wanted to have 2 trucks, but common sense prevailed. Unfortunately, there was not enough room in the driveway for 2 trucks and the car. NEED the car.
At least, I know the buyer. He will treat the truck like I did.

I drove my 1987 f150 for 15 years and 298,000 fun filled miles with a inline six and a 4 speed manual. It just about killed me to get rid of it after I had bought another truck to replace it. A landscape contractor bought it from me and I still see it now and then, cruising down the highway, and making money for him. Good Karma for him and I, not such a bad thing.

It's always good to know your old truck will be in good hands when you sell it. I recently bought my Dad's old 89 F-150 back. He bought it new in 89, put 220,000 on it, and sold it when he bought a new truck in 98. We saw it on the road a few times, but the new owner didn't take care of it. I saw it on the side of a yard, and asked if it was for sale. The engine is blown, (300 six, 5-speed)
and the cab corners and rear wheelwells are shot. I just got a 94 parts truck that was hit in the driver's front for $500.00, so I should be able to get it back on the road soon. I needed another project like I need another hole in my head, but the nostalgia factor is pretty high!

I had an '83 F-100 that I bought new. I had the truck for 16 years, and in '99, sold her. I sold her because I bought a new Ford Explorer, and the 500 a month payments really had me freaked out. Somebody at work wanted the truck for their son, no way on that. But, a friend of mine wanted it, so I sold it to him. I know it is in good hands, he also works for a subsidiary of Pacific Gear as a Driveline Machinist. I saw him and the truck 2 weeks ago. Aside from needing a new carb, that truck is still hanging in there at 265K miles. The truck was a basic truck: three on the tree, no power steering, 300-6.
In 2002, I bought an '85 F150, I wanted another truck of the same model, but at the age of 47 at the time, I just have to have some comforts! It has the C6 auto, cloth seats, power steering, 300-6, and factory air. I had to put some $$ into this truck, and she is working pretty well now. There is definitely something nostalgic that happens to me when I get behind the wheel of this truck. This truck will probably outlast my the '02 Explorer I also have. I could not resist adding my 2 cents with everyone talking about their past trucks. Take care!
