I am looking to purchase a nice 2001 Ford F-250, Powerstroke Diesel.
It is 4x4, Lariat, crew cab with a short bed.
It appears to have been a Texas truck.
This will replace my POS Dodge Dakota as a daily driver.
I have 3 kids, a 12 year old girl, 9 year old girl and a 8 year old son.
My kids are quickly out growing my POS Dakota.
Also, the POS Dakota has developed some many issues, that I giving up on it.
I am seeking advice from you Ford enthusiasts on what to look for when I go to look at this rig up close.
What issues, concerns or problems should I be aware of?
I could not tell, but I think this truck has near or over 100K miles.
I've been told the 7.3T Powerstroke is an excellent engine and will last many miles.
But, what about the truck itself?
What should I look at on a high mileage F-250?
The Powerstroke is an excleent engine and will last at least 200,000 more miles with regular maninetce. I would take the truck out for a test drive and see how she feels, get the RPMs up and make sure the turbo is working, sometimes people try to sell trucks with burnt out turbos, just do the regluar checks and look for anything supisocus under the hood. Remeber anything wrong with the truck is a bargaining chip for you when it comes time to buy. The Truck will should be in good condition, 100K isnt even broke in yet. Good luck with the purchase the PSD is a great engine.
I put 203,000 miles on my 01 PSD before any Major problems! I paid $38,500 out the door tax and all. You nor anyone else could buy it from me for that amount. I now have an 05 as well!!
i have on 02 F350 PSD, and I LOVE this truck. i have heard that the 250,000 mile lifespan is based on a "work truck" i have seen posts on this site from guys with over 300k on thier PSD's, I am shooting for 500k...! we'll see. also, everyone on this site says the F250/F350 chasis are much stronger than the dodges. the cummins diesel motor lasts, but the body of the truck doesn't. sound like you have a little experience with this. i recommend that you read a lot of the posts on this site, you will learn a lot in a short amount of time...! then you'll have more info to make your choice... i hope to hear from a new smoker owner sometime soon...!
