49 f1?
49 f1?
i just spoted a 49 f1 in a buddies garage it been inside stored for over 25 years . it has very little rust it needs a complete restoration . he wants 5k for it . is this too much to pay? i know how hard it is to come by an old truck that has a good body to start with. it cost a lot more to restore an old rusty one than this one
$5,000 (US dollars) is quite high. If the sheet metal is in very good shape, no missing parts, good interior and mechanically sound; maybe $3,000 or $3,500. Number one consideration is the amount of rust, IMHO. ...Terry
You can't buy steel fenders & glass approach $2k total, new bed another $1k, on & on. If the body is great I'd do close to what he wants! Those parts you buy bit by bit REALLY add up though most of us conveniently forget to keep a running total!
A close look is needed. The fenders may look good, but there is often rusted out areas at the bottom. Repairs or replacement can be expensive. How about the floor pan? Cab corners? Does he have any new parts he has bought and will be including? Is the paint intact or is it covered in rust? You say it was garaged for 25 years, but what about the previous 25? Sounds too pricey.
