Stanadyne?

Just picked up my first diesel from Jeff at Van Bortel Ford on thursday. I purchased the '05 powerstroke to pull my 30' travel trailer. I know absolutely nothing about diesels except they can last a long time and they are loud! I don't even know ANYBODY that owns one! Real virgin here. My truck will end up sitting during the week and only being used on weekends. For this reason, I am considering adding Stanadyne as I've read about on this board.

I looked up dealers for Stanadyne and there are none in my area. What is the actual product of Stanadyne you are using? Where do you get it? Can it be mail ordered? and Should I use it?

This is just the start of many questions to come! Thank you all for this wealth of info on the board.

Taz

SBV can tell you more about the Stanadyne than me. Lots here use Powerservice which is available at WallyWorld. Maybe not quite as good a product, but I get about 2 extra mpg running a 6 cetane addition (about 16oz per 25 gal) and the cheap "insurance" of additional lubrication to your injectors is what it's really all about.
You've picked the best site on the web for a WEALTH of information about a 6.0 diesel truck. Do a site search for what you want to know--if it hasn't been asked it probably hasn't been made for these trucks.

Taz,
I have an '03 6.0 I use Stanadyne Performance Formula in virtually every tank. Cetane improver and anti-gel. My completely in-the-know Ford tech says it is worthwhile. I get it from Diesel Injection Service in Texas. Location in Cali, but much cheaper mail-order from Texas.

have a great day!!

Tim

I too use Stanadyne Performance for the anti gel properties (in the winter here it routinely drops below 10 degrees F.) and I can notice a performance difference as well. My mileage does not seem to change..but I typically drive with my foot in it and not for mileage. I definitely endorse it.

Congrats on the new toy. In additon to a good additive, keep your fuel tank full and it'll reduce condensation that can lead to nasties getting in the fuel. Can't go wrong with Stanadyne. I use the all-season performance formula here in Tennessee. If you're further north you might consider the winter formula next winter. BTW, you can mix the different types to suit your needs.

Like SoCal, I mail order mine from Diesel Injection Service. I get the case of 12 pints, and just put half a pint in with each tank fill up.

You can order it from www.dieselpage.com/additive.htm

Link takes me to Motorhaven

It's strange. When I click on the link to dieselpage.com it takes me to motorhaven. I actually have to type the website in to get there.

Yeah, not sure why they have the site configured to do that, since Motorhaven doesn't even carry Stanadyne.

Try "right clicking" the link and choose to open in a new window. This usually works for me.

Fueladditiveonline.com seems to have a better price. Not sure about shipping costs or speed of delivery though.

569104, it seems you live over here on the Eastern Sierras somewhere. Where do you find the Standine on the shelf, or do you have to purchase on line?

I have been using Wallyworld's power service and like it fine but would like to try the good stuff to see if there is a difference.

When I bought from fueladditiveonline I didn't think shipping was out of line based on other Stanadine online retailers I'd checked out. Took about 4 days to get the product though via UPS ground.
