I'm working with a 86 F-150 5.0
Would it be wise to try and put out 300+ Hp without GT-40 heads? What other modifications will I need in order to make this truck perform correctly? Thanks. I really enjoy this site...very informative and organized!
Hi, I dont think it is possible to get 300 hp without gt40 or equiv. heads the heads are where the big horses come from to get that kind of horsepower you need to get it to breethe. and it wont do that on stock heads. JOHN
upper/lower intakes will need to be replaced if possible, throttle body needs to be changed, need a mass air conversion so computer recognizes the mods, ignition and exhaust, headers, high flow cats, or no cats...cam, pistons, possibly flat top pistons or something...or just go out an buy a NOS fuel injection kit and a new MSD ignition with controls for NOS and make a few fun runs against ricers
Kevint, you could dump all that money in the engine and gain alot more for less with gt40 heads. If you want to build a killer 5.0 put gt40 heads equal length headers Cobra (or explorer) upper and lower intakes 24lb. injectors a motorsports e303 cam port the heads no cats fuel reg. set of gears transmission shift kit and mass air and you will have a 13.0 sec. engine in a mustang don't know what it will do in a truck though alot more weight and you are pushing a brick wall through the air!!!
